Being Baniya

Went to a grocery store to buy orange juice. Was just picking up the Tropicana orange juice, this store guy came up to me and said.

Store guy: sir what are you doing?

Me: picking juice, WHAT ARE YOU DOING you sneaky bastard?

SG: sir i am here to advice you.

Me: ok, advice me smart ass (i didn’t call him that,  i said this mentally)

SG: Sir buy Sach orange juice, it’s a brand by Sachin Tendulkar and it has a discount.

Me: Not a fan of cricket but you had me at discount. What kind of discount are we talking about.

SG: Ridiculous one sir.

Me: ok but how much? *trying my best to not to show my grin upon hearing the word “discount”*

SG: 30 Rupees sir.

*Tropicana juice out. Sach juice in the basket.*

Moral of the story: No matter how deep you have buried him, No matter how hard you have tried to hide him from the world but the inner baniya will always be there with you. Everyone has a baniya inside. You can hide him and but you can’t kill him. Being baniya.

This is Prakhar Gupta. Have a great day. And if there is a discount sale going on please let me know.

We,”Spiderman” Indians

We all have seen Spiderman as kids in animation and as an adult in the form of Toby Maguire crying and weeping in every scene of all the three Spiderman movies thus whitewashing all the glorifying memories we had of spiderman(animation version) as kids. But This Blog is not entirely about Spidy, its about us,Indians.

Now,when we think of spidy,we think of his two awesome powers.Web and his sticking ability on every wall, pole or Mary jane(but thats not relevant here). Both these powers are very common in Indians and yes every Indian male would love to stick with Mary jane too(but thats not relevant here too). We,Indians are tangled in the WEBS of society, religion, culture, politics, economics and so on.But This blog is also not about web power of spidy or rather say Indians.

This Blog is about the Sticking power of Indians. We love to stick to one thing or the other and the way we stick is a matter of concern. The best example of this power can be seen in our Education system. For majority of parents in India,Engineering,Medical and MBA are the only three Job opportunities for their kid and people with careers like Dance trainers,Theatre artists, photographers, gym instructors, bartenders,DJ etc. are considered as if they were failure in school or were given less attention by their parents. And out of millions of Engineers and millions of MBA sprawling in our vast country, most of them are clueless of what knowledge they had gained in their college time because none of them willingly opted these Career paths, they were under the burdens of fulfilling the dreams of Indian Parents who think that only Engineers and Doctors and MBAs get respect in life,in society.Even me being a So Called Engineer Don’t know the E of the word “Engineering” let alone the whole word which is horrifying and still give me chills when i realize that i somehow manage to tame it properly.

Similar Affection or rather say STICKING can be seen in the world of sports.Cricket(and i am not criticizing here so don’t get mad cricket lovers) which has given us 2 ODI world cups and one 20-20 world cup is overshadowing Hockey which has given us 8 Golds in Olympics,1 gold in world cup,2 gold in Asian games and 2 Gold in Asia cup and i have not mentioned silver and bronze here. And if you are a foreigner and someone ask you that which country with a population of more than one billion can not win a single gold in Olympics than you know what to answer.

Its time people,Stop being Spiderman.Stop sticking to one thing.Be Superman,Be everywhere.

This is Prakhar Gupta.Have a nice day.
